Historical Evolution (1858 - Present)
From Kishorilal Roy Chowdhuryâs pioneering school in Sadarghat to a modern research public university.
Founding of Jagannath School
Established in Old Dhaka by Kishorilal Roy Chowdhury, named after his father Jagannath Roy Chowdhury, laying the groundwork for century-long academic legacy.
Elevation to Second Grade College
Transformed into Jagannath College under Calcutta University affiliation, producing pioneering scientists, jurists, freedom fighters, and poets.
First Grade Status & University Contributions
Expanded faculties of Science, Commerce, and Arts. Played pivotal historical roles in the 1952 Language Movement and 1971 Liberation War.
Upgraded to Full Public University
Formally established as Jagannath University (JnU), expanding to 38 departments, state-of-the-art research centers, and global alumni network.
